Madam President, ich denke hier hat sich ein Fehler in der Kongressverwaltung eingeschlichen. Es ist schließlich usus, dass ein Vice- oder Rear-Admiral mit Admiral angesprochen werden, obwohl sie den Rang gar nicht innehaben. Ich tippe also darauf, dass Admiral Clarkson tatsächlich Vice-Admiral ist.

Madam President, wahrscheinlich weil die 96 Stunden abgelaufen sind und Militärs keine Politik betreiben. Wenn jemand mit dem Budgetkürzungen über alle Maßen unzufrieden ist, zieht er oder sie seine Konsequenzen. Und diese Konsequenz lautet selten, sich als Chief of Naval Operations aufstellen zu lassen.

Madam President, Senator Ingram sitzt hier einem Irrtum auf. Natürlich ist die Position bei den Joint Chiefs of Staff keine rein militärische mehr. Immerhin ist man verantwortlich für "seine" Teilstreitkraft. Man verwaltet diese, sorgt dafür, dass die eigenen Leute das Material und die Infrastruktur haben, die sie brauchen. Man kämpft förmlich um jeden Cent. Aber und das ist ein ganz großes aber: Man tut all dies so, dass es außerhalb dem Heptagon niemand mitkriegt. Die Armed Forces sind Schild …
